this is meant to be a sort of extended “author’s note” page with a bunch of details about the fic i wanted to list out. for starters, while the work is written from endo’s point of view, funnily enough, the title itself seems to be from umemiya’s. the entire thing is just him pining after endo and endo being none the wiser, after all.

also, none of the other bofurin members are around, because umemiya explicitly asked the four kings to have them steer clear. sorry, endo, no sakura for you.

some parts that i wanted to expand upon:

• “If you like it that much, let’s swing by Cactus again when it’s time for you to leave. I think it’d be a shame if you couldn’t have one just for yourself.”

umemiya notices that every single time that he tries to give endo something, endo always and without fail saves half for takiishi. endo really meant it when he said the version of himself without takiishi doesn’t exist, and umemiya is only a little upset that this is true.

• “Sounds like you’re saying we’re friends, then!” Umemiya strides forward at that, clasping Yamato’s left shoulder with his hand. “I'll hold you to it!” He only grins wider at Yamato’s answering scowl and his attempts to shake off Umemiya’s touch, turning with a huff.

this one might be easier to spot, but umemiya is purposefully covering up endo’s matching tattoo with takiishi in this scene.

• “Then do you think we could be friends?” Yamato glances back at him. Umemiya stands with his hands in his pockets, head tilted to the side like a puppy with a hopefully smile on his face— in the dying sunlight, his hair looks like— like—

in this scene, umemiya’s hair looks like fire, like the night he met takiishi. and endo's reacting to it now compared to earlier (when he called umemiya's hair silver fire) because here, the sunset really makes his hair look like flames, and that reminds him of takiishi.
